Introduction to Taiwan Indigenous TV

Facts about Taiwan:

  1. Population: 22,966,459 (January, 2008)
  2. Area: 36,188 sq km
  3. Indigenous Population: 484,906 (as of January, 2008)



With years of efforts and toil from indigenous elites in Taiwan, TITV was finally established on December 1st 2004. It began program producing and channel testing in early 2005. After half-year’s warm-up and testing period, the first “Indigenous TV” in Asia - Channel 16 finally began to air on July 1st 2005. Under the successive operation of Taiwan Television (TTV) and Eastern Television (ETTV), the initial foundation was built up.
In January 2007, TITV joined the operation of Taiwan Broadcasting System (TBS) and transformed into a non-commercial public media platform for indigenous people and to provide special audio and visual service for audiences.

  3. To provide information and knowledge to facilitate the development of indigenous societies.
  4. To cultivate indigenous broadcasting talents in Taiwan.
  5. To open dialogues and increase understanding among ethnic groups.
